Wraps care and maintenance
The fabric composition of a wrap and different percentages of individual blends in proportion to cotton hugely affect not only the overall properties of a wrap but also the care and maintenance of such wrap. Thus, the question is – which one to choose and how to care for it thereafter?FIRST WASH
Our wraps are made of fabrics dyed in a very gentle process to be suitable for children under three years of age. Thus, an excess dye might be washed out during the first several washings, therefore we recommend you wash the wrap separately or with fabrics of similar colours. It is necessary to wash the wrap before first use. During the washing process the fibres shrink slightly and fit into each other which helps the wrap get its final strong and durable form. We also recommend to wash the wrap for hygienic reasons. Always use the proper washing detergent – we recommend only liquid detergents and don’t recommend using fabric softener. Detailed information can be found with individual blends.
When first washing the wrap, it is important to wash it on the maximum temperature as indicated on the label, later you can wash the wrap on lower temperatures if you wish so (never on higher!).
In case your wrap has several blends, always follow the instructions for the most delicate blend.
Our wraps are made of these blends: COTTON, WOOL, TENCEL, LINEN, HEMP, BAMBOO, and SILK
COTTON
For our wraps we use combed cotton that is much softer and more supporting. It is the most versatile material when choosing a wrap both for a newborn as well as for a toddler. The difference lies in density, which means the thickness and the weight of the wrap. The higher the density, the thicker and more supportive the wrap is. Cotton is very soft, absorbs moisture/sweat well and is very easy-care.Washing
Use liquid washing detergent with no optical brighteners and bleach, don’t use fabric softener. The wrap can be washed on short cycle at 40°C or at 60°C – as instructed on the label on the inclined hem of the wrap. Spin-dry the wrap at low speed (we recommend 400).
Drying tips
Let the wrap dry on clothes drying rack, avoiding direct sunlight and a source of heat. Some wraps can be tumble dried, always follow the instructions on the label. If you want to keep your wrap in good condition for a long time, we recommend to use the tumble dryer rarely.
Ironing
You can iron the wrap on the cotton setting with steam.
How to store the wrap when not using it
You can use all types of storing seeing that cotton is very easy-care; either classic folding or rolling.
WOOL
Wool is a very popular and traditional blend because of its thermoregulatory properties that make it suitable for every weather. It requires more demanding maintenance, however thanks to its self-cleaning ability it doesn’t need to be washed often. Its thermoregulatory properties are legendary – it warms in winter and is moisture-wicking in summer, has a pleasant bounce to it, is very breathable and absorbent. It repels dirt and is soft and cushy from the start, thus needs no breaking in. However, people that are sensitive to wool might feel wool-blend wraps a little bit itchy.Compared to the classic sheep wool, the merino wool we use in our wraps has better thermoregulatory properties and is much softer. Sometimes we combine it with other blends like tencel, silk or linen that add another properties to the whole wrap. Sometimes our wraps contain other types of wool, such as the soft and luxury baby camel wool or wool from the exotic alpaca.
Washing
Use liquid wool wash detergent, avoid using fabric softener. Some of our woollen wraps can be machine-washed. Always follow the instructions on the label on the hem of the wrap. If the wrap can be machine-washed, choose delicate wool cycle with no spin. This will help you avoid folds that are hard to iron. If the wrap requires hand wash, follow these instructions:
Hand wash
Fill a bathtub with a lukewarm water of maximum temperature 30°C and add a dime size amount of wool and silk wash (no optical brighteners, no fabric softeners or enzymes). Add your wool wrap and press gently. Avoid any harsh treatment or rubbing and shuffling. Leave it alone for several minutes. Then refill the bathtub with clean lukewarm water of the same temperature and rinse the wrap by gently swishing through clean water. Pull the plug and press the wrap gently to remove excess water. Never wring the wrap by twisting! Place a light-coloured towel on the floor, and while supporting all of the wrap´s weight, place it on the towel, then gently unfold and double up if needed. Roll the wrap in the towel and gently squish. You can also follow our photo tutorial.
Total Easy Care Merino Wool is specially treated so it can be washed in washing machine and dried in a dryer. Wash the wrap on delicate cycle for wool and fine fabrics with no spin. You will thus avoid creation of folds that are difficult to iron. Never wring the wrap by twisting and follow the same steps as when drying a wool wrap.
Drying tips
Follow the instruction on the label. Total Easy Care Merino wool is specially treated so it can be tumble dryed. Howerer, tumble drying wears down the fibres, thus if you want to keep your wrap nice and beautiful, lay the wrap flat to dry. Never hang it – hanging can distort the wrap and damage it. Dry avoiding direct sunlight and a source of heat.
Ironing
Once the wrap is dry, you can iron it on the wool setting without steam.
How to store the wrap when not using it
Ideal storing is either to fold it into square or roll it.
TENCEL®
Wraps with the TENCEL® blend are supportive enough due to its strong fibres, while remaining floppy, breathable and absorbent. On the skin TENCEL® feels like a caress and is especially pleasant during hot summer days. TENCEL® is delicate as silk, at the same time being cooler than linen. It absorbs moisture even better than cotton. It usually needs no breaking in.Washing
Use liquid washing detergent with no optical brighteners and bleach, don’t use fabric softener. The wrap can be washed at 40°C – as instructed on the label situated on the inclined hem of the wrap. Spin-dry at low speed (we recommend 400).
Drying tips
Let the wrap dry hanging on a clothes drying rack, avoiding direct sunlight and a source of heat.
Ironing
Iron the tencel wrap on wool setting (two dots), preferably when it’s slightly wet; ideally iron the blend-side of the wrap (if you don’t know which one it is, write us J ) If the wrap is still crumpled, you can put a damp cloth over the wrap and iron on higher setting on the cotton side of the wrap.

LINEN AND HEMP
Linen is well known for its great thermoregulatory properties. It is cooling, antibacterial and prevents overheating in hot summer days thanks to its great moisture-wicking ability. On the other hand, in winter it keeps you warm and creates a kind of insulation thanks to small tubes in the flax fibres. Due to its strength it increases the supportiveness of the wrap and thus also adds to the comfort when babywearing heavier children. Hemp in a wrap can be spotted thanks to its high supportiveness, great thermoregulatory properties and interesting irregular look.Washing
Use liquid washing detergent with no optical brighteners and bleach, don’t use fabric softener. Linen and hemp wrap can be washed at 40°C – as instructed on the label on the wrap. Spin-dry at low speed (we recommend 400).
Drying tips
Let the wrap dry hanging on a clothes drying rack, avoiding direct sunlight and a source of heat. Some wraps can be tumble dried, always check for instructions on the label of the wrap. However, if you want to keep your wrap nice and beautiful for a long time, tumble dry rarely.
Ironing
Iron when still slightly wet with a steam on linen setting (maximum). Linen and hemp blends usually need some breaking in, and during this process they love to be ironed regularly.
How to store the wrap when not using it
Ideal storing is to roll the wrap and occasionally re-roll it. Folding that could put pressure on certain places might cause fibre degradation and following permanent folds.
BAMBOO
Bamboo is breathable, light-weight, soft, perfect for newborns and during summer.Washing
Use liquid washing detergent with no optical brighteners and bleach, don’t use fabric softener. Wash at low temperatures at 30 °C so the bamboo fibres won´t get damaged - as instructed on the label on the hem of the wrap. Spin-dry your bamboo wrap at low speed (we recommend 400).
Drying tips
Lay the bamboo wrap flat to dry. Never hang it – hanging can distort the wrap and damage it. Dry avoiding direct sunlight and a source of heat.
Ironing
Iron the bamboo wrap on wool setting (two dots), preferably when it’s slightly wet; iron the blend-side of the wrap (if you don’t know which one it is, write us J ) If the wrap is still crumpled, you can put a damp cloth over the wrap and iron on higher setting on the cotton side of the wrap.

SILK
Silk adds a touch of luxury, shine and brightness to a wrap and makes it more supportive. Just like wool it requires a more demanding maintenance. Cooling during hot summer days, warming and pleasant during winter – such are silk-blend wraps. On a bare skin it feels like caress, so even the most sensitive people will enjoy wearing this wrap. Moreover, thanks to its floppiness and softness it is suitable also for small babies.Washing
Use liquid silk wash detergent, avoid using fabric softener. Usually silk wraps must be hand washed. Always follow the instructions in the label on the hem of the wrap.
